Outdoor Noise Control

Outdoor Noise Control

Complaints about outdoor noise sources are very common.  eNoise Control has years of experience helping customers with their outdoor noise control applications.

Urban areas often have noise codes or ordinances to help residents and businesses manage noise for everyone’s benefit.  City noises include construction sites and rooftop outdoor HVAC equipment.  We have experience designing solutions for both of these common problems.

Construction Noise

Construction Site NoiseAnyone that has ever been near an active construction site is probably familiar with some of the sounds.  Heavy machinery, excavation, trucks backing up, and jackhammers are just some of the noises you might hear.  Some municipalities have enacted noise ordinances to help construction noise from being disruptive to people nearby.  Jurisdictions often set maximum decibel levels for daytime and nighttime activities.  For construction sites that exceed these levels, some type of outdoor sound reduction system or noise mitigation measures must be put in place.

Outdoor Sound Curtains

An excellent solution for construction site noise are our quilted outdoor sound curtains.  Outdoor sound curtains work in two ways.  First, they block the sound from leaving the job site.  Second, they absorb the sound so that noise is not reflected back into the job site, negatively affecting the workers.  Additionally, the curtains provide an excellent visual barrier for the site.

Features of Exterior Grade Sound Curtains:

HVAC Noise

Large businesses and buildings require various HVAC equipment such as chillers, compressors, and blowers.  This machinery may be located on the rooftop in urban environments, or on the side or rear of the building in more suburban locations.  This equipment can produce a hum or whining noise that is often almost constant.

There are two ways to limit noise pollution from outdoor HVAC equipment.  One way is to enclose the space or block it off.  This can be accomplished with either our outdoor noise control curtains or a sound wall.  These two types of outdoor soundproofing panels will help keep the sound near the equipment.

An enclosure or wall with outdoor sound curtains consists of a support structure with exterior grade quilted sound material secured to it.  The support structure can be made of wood, steel, chain link fence, and other materials.

Steel outdoor sound walls and enclosures are also effective options for outdoor HVAC equipment.  This modular panel system is durable and has properties to both absorb and block noise.  Panels can be treated to match surrounding areas to create an aesthetically pleasing noise solution.

Another way to reduce noise from outdoor equipment is to wrap the offending pieces with sound blanket material.  The blankets are custom fit to the machinery and are removable for easy access for maintenance crews.
